Dear Members,
At last night’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) a small group of disaffected members sought to remove four Directors who had been previously democratically elected by you – in an attempt to gain control of your Club.
The attempt failed badly.
In a farcical situation the organisers were unable to bring enough supporters to form the EGM, causing their bid to completely collapse.
You can see the formal announcement here.
It was reassuring to see the Members support for the elected Directors through online and postal votes by 2:1 majority.
On behalf of the Board and Management, we sincerely thank you for upholding and supporting the Club’s democratic processes. However, it is with great disappointment that I must report that the Club had to waste over $400,000 of valuable Members’ funds on printing and posting to our 65,000 members, and on professional advice and support. All this on a process that ultimately could not proceed due to the most basic of errors by the organisers.
Beyond the financial cost, this process has had a significant impact on our dedicated staff and delayed several critical projects that aim to enhance our Club’s operations.
During the EGM process, the Club became concerned with various statements, assertions and actions that were not in the Club’s best interest, including misinformation and improper electioneering, damaging the Club’s reputation.
To address these issues, the Club will immediately commence a thorough review of all matters related to the EGM. We invite any Member with concerns to contact us directly by email—we value your feedback and remain committed to transparency.
Looking ahead, it is crucial for Parramatta Leagues Club and Parramatta Eels to continue to move forward together. While some commentary has highlighted historical challenges between the Club and its football program, we now have an opportunity to leave those divisions behind and focus on our unified, successful future.
Together, we can build a brighter future for our great Club. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment.
