The Parramatta Leagues Club (PLC) today announced a $2.12m profit for the year ended 31 October 2020. This was the first financial result delivered under the new Constitution and follows the retirement of the NSW Government appointed Administrator in March 2020.
President Greg Monaghan said that the Club was proud to deliver a strong result for its Members and community, despite the impact of COVID-19 – including being completely closed for 10 weeks.
“Our Club was able to continue to serve Members in person at Parra Leagues and Vikings on every single day we were permitted to open, and through innovative new services when closed”, he said.
PLC introduced new services during the closure period. These included online bingo and trivia, and takeaway and delivery of food and beverage, which kept members engaged with their Club, and with each other through trying times. Surplus food and sanitiser was delivered to community organisations such as Parramatta Mission and Northcott.
“PLC still contributed over $800,000 direct to the Community and Junior Rugby League via ClubGRANTS. We continued to support our mighty Eels, who overcame the disruption caused by the pandemic to finish 3rd on the ladder.
“Once open again, we were forensic in our focus on the safety of staff and patrons through deep cleaning, mask wearing, social distancing, sanitiser, temperature testing and all essential measures.
“The 2020 financial year will always be remembered as the year of COVID-19 – and the year that the Club’s new Constitution was approved overwhelmingly by Members,” Mr. Monaghan said.
Seven new highly skilled and independent Directors were appointed, with a combined 104 years of continuous Membership of the Club.
“The new Board certainly endured a baptism of fire. These results are a ringing endorsement that the Directors have come through with flying colours.”
Mr. Monaghan thanked the staff and management of the PLC and the Eels for their successful endeavours for Members and Fans in such challenging circumstances.
He also expressed thanks to the Members who supported the Club so well, and to those who contributed to its wide-ranging membership survey, which was the central consideration in formulating the Club’s new Strategic Plan.
“The Club is now well-positioned to grow and deliver even more value to Members in future years, and we look forward to unveiling those plans in coming months.”
