Dear Members,
A small group of Members have submitted a petition to call an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and propose resolutions to have four directors removed from the Board of the Parramatta Leagues’ Club Ltd (Club or PLC).
The Club is required to put the Resolutions to Voting Members, your voting papers have been sent via email and mail and will arrive shortly. An EGM of PLC has been convened on 19 November 2024. The full details of the EGM can be found here.
While the Club has been limited in what we can say about this situation up until this point, as President of the PLC and a lifelong Eels supporter I share many Members and supporters’ disappointment that we are going through this process. However, it is absolutely vital that you vote in the EGM to ensure Members voices are heard.
Here are the key points that you should consider when casting your vote:
- I urge you to vote AGAINST the resolutions to remove the four PLC Directors to ensure we do not return to the periods of factionalism and dysfunction that previously affected the Club.
- This EGM is not in the best interests of the PLC at a time when we have record membership growth, strong financial performance and are finalising our Masterplan for our new redevelopment. The costs associated with the EGM process already are estimated to be at least $400,000.
- There are number of inaccuracies in the EGM petition which you can read here from our Company Secretary. The most important being that removing four PLC Directors will have NO IMPACT on changing the constitution of the Eels following the governance reforms of 2016.
- You may also have seen media reports that highlight the support of the EGM by individuals who have been part of a turbulent period in history such as our Salary Cap and governance breaches between 2009 and 2016.
Our commitment as a Board is to continue to build a stronger, better future for our Club and its Members. Our objectives are to ensure the stability of both the Leagues and Football Clubs for future generations, supporting grassroots football and sport, and providing Members with the best possible venues and experiences.
In 2024, the Club’s financial performance is strong, membership has grown 30% in the past four years; the asset base has expanded with the opening of Dural Club; and the Club co-funded $70 million to the Parramatta Eels Centre of Excellence which will open in 2025.
We have worked hard to move past the difficult period of 2010-2016 in our Club’s history and remain focused on investing in the road ahead for our Club.
As Members, you too have a voice in shaping our future and can exercise your voting rights at the EGM either in person or electronically, make sure you have your say.
If you have any questions or comments, I would be happy to hear from you – you can contact me via email here.
Greg Monaghan
President of the Board
