Lockdown has impacted everyone in completely different ways. Volunteer run associations have been impacted because with the harsh restrictions, they haven’t been able to accept volunteers into their kitchens to prepare meals. Parramatta Leagues Club stepped up with a 7-week initiative to continue to put food on the table, as well as continue chefs working in the establishment.
Starting on August 17th and ending at the end of September (pending COVID lockdown extension), Parra Leagues Club has been preparing meals for pick-up from those in need to assist families and those impacted the greatest.
Twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays Greater Western Sydney Ronald McDonald House collects 200 meals on both days. On Wednesday, there are 200 more meals prepared, distributed and collected by Parramatta Mission and PCYC. There are a variety of meals prepared to cater for different tastes and requirements, this wouldn’t have been made possible without the assistance of Argyle Prestige Meats based in Sydney who have partnered with us.
Our Executive Chef Paul Jury said that “the team come into work with a smile on their face and a spring in their step knowing they are making a difference.” At the conclusion of this initiative, our chefs will have provided 3600 meals and a total of $43 000 invested across Parramatta Leagues Club and The Parramatta Eels.
