Message from the President - Parramatta Leagues Club
Message from the President

9 Sep, 2022

Spring has arrived, along with the Footy Finals Fever! Congratulations to our Mighty Eels finishing the NRL premiership rounds in the Top Four. We wish them all success in the Finals series, starting tonight against Penrith in the next instalment of the Battle of the West!

On the home front, Parra Leagues and Vikings Sports are both trading very well, thanks to you our loyal Members. Our new Subaru promotion has generated a lot of excitement and we can’t wait to announce the winner this Sunday!

The development of our new alfresco restaurant in Eels Lane is making progress, despite being impacted by COVID and supply chain issues. We anticipate completion of designs and the beginning of construction in the coming months. This will include the covered walkway from the car park to the club, a boon in wet weather. The new venue will expand the Club by around 150 seats, enabling more Members to enjoy our hospitality, especially when events are on, where the Club is currently at capacity.

Vikings Sports has been renovated and reopened. It looks great and there are more improvements to come under the leadership of new Venue Manager Thomas Wanta, who many of you will already know.

Representatives from our Club attended the Annual Community Grants Award ceremony in August. The Parra Group is proud to have donated over $1.1 million to support local community groups. Our Club is the biggest ClubGRANTS donor in our area and we are proud of our contribution to groups such as Parramatta Touch Football, and Miracle Babies Moonwalk where our staff and members raised over $12,000 to support families and newborns in ICU. In addition we have of course continued our support of Parramatta Junior Rugby League.

We have strengthened our staff this year with key appointments including Kerrie Wadwell as Chief Operating Officer, Genell Dunn, making her mark as Community Manager, Melinda Mcilwaine our new Membership Specialist, and just this week, Paul Denahy in the important General Manager, People and Culture role. Our staff have been magnificent throughout this difficult period, when like many businesses in Australia, it has been difficult to recruit enough staff. Our team has been great, working extra hours and putting in the enormous effort required to continue to serve Members.

Thank you to all the Members who attended our recent ‘Meet the Directors’ sessions at Parra Leagues and Vikings Sports. Directors enjoyed the opportunity to again chat with Members and gain valuable feedback.

Finally, thank you to all our loyal Members. We are continuing to grow and to set new records in both Leagues Club Members (56,000) and Eels Members (34,000) – a combined total of 90,000 Members.

We will continue our drive to expand our Club to cater for all our Members near and far.

In closing, we look forward to a great showing by the Blue and Gold tonight!

GO PARRA!!
