Dear Members,
Following my message in December, I am writing to provide an update on the member‑proposed constitutional changes.
We have now received an updated submission from the proponents, correcting several anomalies in their original paperwork. On legal advice, the Board is obliged to include these requisitioned resolutions and supporting statements in the AGM Notice and voting pack. This ensures due process and respects members’ rights.
At the same time, the Board’s considered view remains that these changes would take the Club backwards. They would unwind parts of the governance framework implemented over recent years to protect members’ interests, maintain regulatory compliance, and support long-term planning and delivery. It is the firm view of the Leagues Club Board that these proposals are intended to dismantle reforms that have strengthened the Club. They target the following areas: ·
- Removal of postal and electronic voting. ·
- Weakening of Director Eligibility rules, including reversing the member resolution passed at last year’s AGM regarding “fit and proper” individuals.
- Weakening key safeguards relating to member eligibility and discipline.
Changes proposed in voting procedures would exclude electronic voting by members significantly reducing our 65,000 members ability to participate in critical votes that determine how your Club is administered.
Preparing and administering additional resolutions for the AGM will inevitably incur extra time and cost, diverting focus from priorities that members have asked us to deliver.
The Club has made the following decisions:
- The petition to include the resolutions is to be put to members.
- Members will receive the AGM Notice and voting pack, including the member‑proposed resolutions and explanatory notes.
- A plain‑English FAQ will be published to help members understand the proposals, their potential impacts, and why the Board opposes these changes. Requisitioned Constitutional Changes FAQ’s
- A dedicated inbox will be available for questions ahead of the AGM: [email protected]
In a spirit of goodwill, the Board is also considering writing directly to the individuals driving these changes to offer a full refund of their memberships. While we respect that some members are dissatisfied with the Club’s direction, we do not believe the broader membership should continually bear the time and cost associated with attempts to undo governance settings that have supported our recent progress and future plans.
Some members have asked for disclosure of the names of those involved in this petition. The Board is reviewing its options under clause 6.3(b) of the Club’s Constitution, as approved by members at the 2025 AGM.
Thank you for your continued support of Parramatta Leagues Club.
Kind regards,
Mark Jenkins
On behalf of the Board of Directors:
